The Instructor Development Course process consists of three parts:

  1. Candidates must have a valid student level Adult CPR/AED certification (from Red Cross or an equivalent agency - including BLS) when they arrive to the Instructor Development class. Here is a listing of acceptable certifications from Red Cross and other agencies that will meet this pre-requisite. If you aren’t currently certified, you can find a basic class here before the Instructor Course!

  2. An online, self-paced pre-work session that lasts approximately 2 hours must also be completed ahead of the in-person course. This is an overview about teaching Red Cross courses and sets the foundation for your in-person class. Once enrolled in the Instructor Course, you will receive an access link to this online pre-work. You must also obtain a current copy of the Red Cross Instructor Manual. Your organization may already have one, or you can buy one through us at checkout, or free digital PDF versions are also available after registration.

  3. An in-person Instructor Development course that lasts approximately 6.5 hours is the final component. This portion has a skills polish, demonstrations by the trainer, training material review, and then practice teach back sessions for the instructor candidates. This portion will help ensure that candidates are ready to go out and teach on their own!
