  • This is an INSTRUCTOR COURSE, for those that wish to teach student level First Aid/CPR/AED courses to the public or to their employees. After completion of this course, you will have the ability to hold classes and certify students in Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED courses. Instructor certifications are valid for 2 years.

  • This course will train instructor candidates to teach basic-level American Red Cross First Aid CPR and AED courses. There are several pre-requisites that MUST BE COMPLETED prior to sitting for this course:

    1. Possess an unexpired Adult CPR/AED student certificate (or an equivalent from another agency like AHA or HSI). You MUST bring proof of basic student certification to the in-person Instructor Class. Equivalents include the AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED, HSI CPR/AED, or a state medical license such as Paramedic or EMT.

    2. Successfully complete the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor course pre-work session online. A link to this online pre-work will be sent to you upon registration for the course. This will take approximately two hours to complete.

    3. Posses copies of the Instructor Manual and Participant Manual - these are required for class. These are available for purchase from the Red Cross store at the links above or you can download digital versions for free of these required materials. Digital materials will be available for free download AFTER you enroll in the course.

BLENDED LEARNING: This is a blended learning course. You must complete the online pre-work mentioned in #2 above before attending.

PROOF OF COMPLETION: You are required to show proof of basic level certification as outlined in #1 above, and proof of completion of #2 outlined above. Those that do not bring proof of completion will not be admitted to the course.

  • AFTER becoming an instructor, you will need to have many supplies and pieces of equipment on hand in order to properly hold a course. Here is a resource from the Red Cross that outlines many of the supplies and equipment pieces you will need. Keep in mind that in addition to the Red Cross Store, there are many other vendors available where supplies can be purchased from. Also, instructor manuals, videos, and handouts are all provided in free digital formats so hard copies are not required. Reach out to us if you have any equipment questions or would like vendor recommendations.

  • Students will spend on average, 2 hours working through the online pre-work portion of the course. Your in-person part of the training lasts approximately 6.5 hours.

  • There are three ways to become “affiliated” after you complete your instructor training in order to issue certifications to your students:

Authorized Provider (AP): The AP affiliation is for businesses, schools and organizations that need to train people internally (like your employees or volunteers).

Licensed Training Provider (LTP): For those that want to setup a business to train groups of people externally (you sell your services as an Instructor). You will generally need to setup an LLC and carry insurance. There are many other considerations of running a business (like rent, taxes, bank accounts, website building, marketing, etc.)

Affiliated-AP/LTP: While still an independent business or organization, you can affiliate with Ohio CPR Certs and we provide customer support, mentoring, discounted pricing on your certification cards, and handle the administrative aspect of issuing cards to your students. This is for those that want to just focus on teaching courses while also saving $2-3 per student on your certification cards.

  • The location of this course is at the Westerville Community UCC Church located at 770 County Line Rd, Westerville, OH 43081. Free parking is available in the adjacent lot. Enter through the left side entrance and follow the signs to the classroom. Restrooms are available at the class site. A short lunch break (about 30 minutes) is provided during the course. Students are welcome to bring food & drink into the classroom.

  • If you have a medical license (such as EMT, RN, Medic, etc.), you will have the opportunity to complete a couple of free online bridge courses in order to obtain your BLS Instructor certification. You must still complete this basic level Instructor Development course in order to take the free bridges.

  • All Red Cross course certificates are issued digitally. Within 30 minutes of completing your in-person skills session, a Digital Certificate will be emailed directly to you. You can print, save, download, or email this certificate as needed!
